Farcliff is ideally
located mid-island: Historic Dunmoretown is just a five-minute walk
away and offers shops and art galleries, colorful Loyalist cottages,
and bayside straw markets. Local boatmen stand ready to take you water
skiing, bottom or bone fishing, or to whisk you away to a deserted island
for a picnic. Spectacular diving sites abound. Linger bayside for the
always spectacular sunset and a four-star gourmet dinner or head home
to enjoy Merlene's island specialties in the candlelit privacy of your
own dining room.
The ocean is irresistible. Swim in its
gin-clear water, surf cast for Pompano, snorkel Pond Rock (just yards
away), or snooze over a beach book. Rent a sailboat or ocean kayak,
or promote a beach volleyball game. A dawn jog to the Narrows is four
miles round trip up the beach (or head past Pond Rock to South Bar if
two miles is more your speed).
With just a little planning, you can deep-sea
fish, explore the caves on nearby Eleuthera, or buzz over to Nassau
on the Fast Ferry. Spanish Wells, a unique fishing village on Eleuthera,
is known for its handmade quilts and world-class lobster trade. Stop
for a picnic en route at secluded Half Moon Beach.
Nightlife begins late and thumps with
rhythm until the wee hours. Local Caribbean bands alternate with karaoke
and popular DJ sessions in bars and clubs. For a different mood, try
a star-lit beach walk... when the moon is full, you won't need a flashlight!
